How I got here
Complex, made small
Some of it was work, some of it was school, and one move was family. What the places have in common is that each one was running something complicated, and in every one of them I ended up closer to the machinery than I expected to be. That is where the habit comes from. Find the complicated thing, then make it small enough to actually work with.
China
Beijing first, then years of living and traveling around the country. What I could not stop watching was the pace of it, the work ethic and the competition. It set my baseline for what busy actually looks like.
Hong Kong
School here, then Australia for economics and management, then back again for a second degree in computer science. After that I recruited engineers at Huxley, which turned out to be the more useful education of the two. Reading job specs all day teaches you what a company will genuinely pay to have fixed, and how little of it is glamorous.
Yakutsk
COVID sent me home to Sakha to look after my grandparents, and I stayed to build for the region: government portals, internal databases, systems for the education sector. Public infrastructure is where you learn that the hard part is almost never the code.
Macau
I lived here a while, freelancing, and got curious about how a city this small moves that much money. Most of the answer turned out to be logistics. Where people enter, how far they walk, how a floor is laid out so a packed room never feels packed. Complexity you are not supposed to notice.
Atyrau
Now the oil and gas cluster in western Kazakhstan. Same pattern as everywhere else, except this time I am paid for the part I used to only watch: finding the process that is still run by hand, and making it small enough to hand over.

Detection accuracy on a government-funded AI CCTV and wildlife detection system.
Performance improvement on the national statistical portal.
Legal entities in the Atyrau oil and gas cluster running on tooling I built, after modernizing their contractor systems.
Kazakhstan's first educational marketplace, led and built as a working prototype.
